How to increase CTR in search engines?

Please share your best tips to increase click through rate in search results.

Let's discuss both Blackhat and Whitehat methods.

I'll start with a few from top of my head. Two main things in our control is title and description, title is completely in our control but description can be dynamic.

  1. Using rating snippets. This can be both whitehat and blackhat.
  2. Using negative keywords in title. This is why negative reviews and sites like ripoff report are so hard to beat because they get the best CTR.
I'll add more later. Wondering what others can recommend.

Was just about to google this query. Glad i saw this thread.i am gonna try the ratings. Thanks for the info
 
Thank you all for these great suggestions.

Does anyone know of a reliable service provider who offers this and has good success rate? Anyone here on BHW or elsewhere.

I would be willing to pay good amount of money for a service like this. Even if it achieves 1% higher CTR. Sounds like a good money maker for someone who is good at optimizing a few things since none of these are very time consuming changes but require artistic abilities which can't really be outsourced effectively. Like a specialist.
 
@guzm can you explain how the negative keywords work? I know how it works on Google Ads but how will it work for my website?

I can suggest you to improve CTR of your ads...

1) Closely relate your ads to the keywords on which you're bidding.

2) Test a few ads and after you get good amount of data, disable the ones that are not getting you good clickthrough

3) This is most important -> Keep a close watch on your search term reports and remove all keywords that are not relevant to your product / business. This will make sure that your ads are not triggered at irrelevant searches which in turn will improve your CTR

4)Your ad rank is a multiple of the Quality Score
5) Try improving your landing page experience.
 
I can suggest you to improve CTR of your ads...

There's something called snippets which can make your listing/ad more attractive resulting in greater ctr.

Interesting point. But if you run an ecommerce store how would you use negative keywords on your own product title?

You Improve Your Site's Organic CTR by using these methods
Track the current state of your click-through rate.
Focus on improving page titles.
Test page titles in order to pick the most effective.
Improve URL structure to make it descriptive.
Pay attention to your meta descriptions.
Make use of rich snippets and structured data.
