do i let users make accounts or what

or do they just send you article via email

i have huge well designed site with many categories but not many posts. i also have some daily visitors. not much though

i think i could make more profit on ads if some people wrote articles for me

but im not sure. i would probably attract only people who will write 500 words about his great product, link to it and call it hq post and send it over to me

i myself would rather spend time on programming than writing articles. and just let other people do it

I think you need to allow the users to make account with the website and have to give them author permission.

Better you ask them to send the article via dropbox, google drive, etc. In that folder, they should send the article + a few high-quality images. To make a better idea, go on google and search: guest post / submit article + your niche ( let's say home improvement, so there will be: guest post + home improvement ). Go on each site and see what are their guidelines, etc.

To let people you don't know to make an account on your website may be a wrong decision.

I just ask them to email me the article, I then post it with the link they want.

Giving users access to your site is definitely a bad idea, they will spam you to hell.
