I have to hire freelancer on upwork, it is my first time I never did before so I am not sure how to do it. I don't want to be scammed so I want to make sure before I hire and give them admin access to my website. I just researched for several candidates, all(five) of them have good reputation, 95+ job success, earned over 300k $. So I can trust these freelancers right? Since they are on upwork for a decade or more earned hundreds of tousand cash, have good reviews, high job success. Does all these is enough to make sure they are legit and worth to trust?

On my opinion, if they have been around 10 years on upwork, also have earned 300k with 95+ score, there is not any red flag here,so sure you can hire them but still before hiring any of them better ask a zoom meeting as it always better to see and speak face to face with that person you will trust your money and project, couse on a live interview you can understand many things about his level of knowledge, just try to ask everything you need, than make an right offer with right payment terms depending on your type of project.

Since you're hiring on the platform and all dealing will be on the platform, you're safe. Dealing outside there is when you have to worry.

Cant u lock down access to parts of ur site somehow? Thats what I would do. Also best to give them temporary credentials that u can easily revoke.

In my experience with Upwork just be sure you are 100% clear up front what you expect to receive, and request samples or solid references - especially if they are link builders.

Choose proven performers who have enough reviews. But if you work through Upwork then you have enough security guarantees from the application. I wouldn't worry so much about that.

Hiring a freelancer on Upwork for the first time can seem intimidating, but it's a relatively straightforward process. Here are the steps to follow:

Sign up for an Upwork account: Create an account on Upwork by providing your name, email address, and other necessary information.

Post a job: Describe the project you need help with, including the skills required, the timeline, and your budget. Be as detailed as possible to attract qualified freelancers.

Review proposals: Once you post a job, Upwork will notify relevant freelancers who can submit proposals to work with you. Take the time to review each proposal carefully and ask questions to clarify any doubts you may have.

Interview candidates: If you find a few proposals that stand out, invite those freelancers for an interview. The interview can take place via messaging, phone, or video call.

Choose a freelancer: After interviewing the candidates, choose the one who you believe can deliver quality work within your budget and timeline.

Set up a contract: Once you select a freelancer, Upwork will generate a contract that outlines the project details, payment terms, and milestones. Review and sign the contract, and ask your freelancer to do the same.

Begin working: Once the contract is signed, you can start working with the freelancer. Keep communication lines open and provide clear feedback throughout the project.

Release payment: When the project is complete, review the work and release payment to the freelancer.

Remember to be clear about your expectations and requirements upfront to avoid any miscommunication later on. Good luck!

Does all these is enough to make sure they are legit and worth to trust?
At most times this is enough but not always.
What I do is I create small test projects and filter out the trash.
BTW looking for a dev and you have a good budget: Just head over to google and start searching for related projects on Github.
Github dev's with a nice portfolio and projects are great choice for any project.

YES
95+ job success and earned over 300k $ are good reasons to hire the freelancers
Request for samples or give them a test

Yes, a freelancer with good reputation, 95+ job success, earned over 300k $ are good to go, but still it's not risk free. You have to take extra steps. have a one to one conversation with them, let them know about your expectations, be clear with your terms, project deadlines and payments.

Test them with trial project before moving to larger project.

You need someone external to review the changes/code if it's programming related.

If you don't have any knowledge in the subject it's always best to have someone that does that reviews the work. Then you know if it's quality or not.

I can review the code, if you need a helping hand, I'm happy to help.
