How to hire freelance developer

Require a developer for a few projects. Bit worried about posting this on here, as I need the code to be clean, robust, and without exploits sitting on my server.

Do you have any recommendations on how/where to find a reliable developer that isn't going to take the code, recycle, reuse, and resell.

One of the big freelance sites as they all offer ratings for the contractors. I personally like oDesk and have used it as employee and employer. Elance generally has a higher level of talent but you pay a premium.
