I heard that websites that use them usually get penalized which makes it harder to rank. Is there any way to hide those links from go0gle without braking any amazon policies?
I'm using wordpress btw so any plugins or links would be appreciated.

I remember when I first bought [email protected], they mentioned that the script 'obfuscated' the actual links to [email protected] so as to make your site not look like a 'made for [email protected] commissions only' site.

I don't know if obfuscating links is useful anymore, or if it ever was, but may be what you need.

    To hide links from Google:

1.) Create a subdirectory on your website
2.) Disallow that subdirectory in robots.txt, to tell Google not to look in it.
3.) For each link to Amazon, instead of linking directly, create a .php file in that subdirectory you made that redirects to the Amazon page. Then link to that .php file instead of directly to Amazon.

The result is that Google sees that you're linking to your own site, not to Amazon. But since the files are in a directory excluded by robots.txt, it doesn't actually read the files, and thus doesn't discover the affiliate links.

I've never heard of this being an issue but that doesn't mean it isn't, i'd love if someone could shine a little light on this subect.

I use prettylinks plugin for wordpress. It creates an affiliate link such as http://www.yourdomain.com/linknamehere

It's pretty nice, whether or not this hides full affiliate links from google i am not sure.

    Anyone know ?

I've heard a lot of people say that they've seen Google grabbing pages from areas denied by the robots.txt in their logs, but that they just don't index them. Could be for that reason? Also they will easily follow a redirect but you could detect their user agent / ip before forwarding doing a server side redirect.
