How To Handle Duplicate Content

A friend of my asked me a question I couldn't answer with confidence so I would like to ask you, BHW members

He has a (we could say almost authority) site and wants to publish content (no change to the actual content, it will be copy paste, probably only different H1 and metas) from other (smaller) blogs. The blog owners are OK with this and they actually want their content posted on friend's bigger site. The question is - how to handle this situation and not upset the big G? I would also like to note that G isn't the main traffic source so it doesn't have to be super-bulletproof.

Could be done with a rel=canonical? Friend's authority site will rel=canonical to the original blog? Or use rel=author to notify G that the author is OK with the content being published elsewhere?

To be completely safe that Google doesn't penalize your friend, he need to put in a link back to the original content and then put the noindex tag in his duplicate content to prevent Google to index it.

In that way he is "telling Google" that he is doing it for users not to manipulate SERP.

However if he wants to rank for them, this is risky and I would recommend to give the content to a writer to rewrite it completely.

Let's state it that the canonicalization is for the owner of the content that they want to say to Google which one is the URL to be indexed if they syndicate their contents.

Be sure that the owner of the contents are aware and agree to be copied.

its better to give the content to a writer to rewrite it. Or at-least use programs like TBS,Spin rewriter,chimp rewriter...etc, there are so much available. make use of it and made a manual check on it before you put it on the actual website.

you will be penalized or the people who providing you articles will be spa**ed by this wok. Try to write a new article which are present in the sub blogs.

In the bottom of the article give an link to the sub blogs with a keyword see more or read more. Which will be meaning full.
