I am sure a majority of you realize how powerful networking is not only in the online world, but in the real world as well. Eventually I want to start giving seminars on how to be a good speaker or powerful presenter, because it seems like a skill that everyone will need. Whether you want to start your own business or do business with others, you need to have good speaking skills.
I think everyone likes bullet style presentations, so I mite as well use it here are some steps or measurements you can take to speak well:
To see if you are lacking in any area, practice anything I just said to see if your conversations improve. Try doing the opposite or something different on the points I made to see if you can come up with a better way. This is no means a guide to change yourself, you need to find what works with you, just like with anything in life. Think back to all the lectures you been to or cheesy speakers you see on TV, they all have different styles and many never change.
I think everyone likes bullet style presentations, so I mite as well use it here are some steps or measurements you can take to speak well:
- Study the dictionary, thesaurus, and read. It seems something simple that is almost an unnecessary task, because you probably read enough crap here to make ten bibles worth of text. But it really is necessary in learning about the words that you read and different meanings that can be developed with various context.
- Enjoy talking about different topics with your peers and acquaintances, especially strangers or new people who you have met. Take this opportunity to talk about things that you would never think about talking about with people that you already know. That way when an uneasy topic comes up in a professional situation, that you will get use to addressing the situation with confidence.
- Talk with your hands by making various motions. This is a skill that does not come over night or even with a few years. Some people are born with this skill and others it can take a very long time develop. I would say that if you are lucky, that you really can start doing this within a few months of practice. However to get really good, you mite need to speak constantly for years. It is not sign language or any language, it is just something you make up.
- Look people in the eyes, but do not give them an awkward stare or death stare as I like to call it. Because it can actually detract from the conversation if you give them the wrong kind of look. Make sure that you are genuinely happy with the conversation, so that your eye movements and small movements on your face match up to the feeling that you want to portray. We have a lot of muscles on our face, so just keep that in mind in all of your conversations, especially in negotiations.
