hftms, where has you traffic been coming from? From search, social media, web 2.0 properties or from somewhere else? The decrease in traffic means some of your traffic channels are not working the way they used to.
Also, judging by the feel of your niche, I'd recommend you to connect with your audiences via web 2.0 properties. Do guest posting, blog/forum commenting, social sharing/bookmarking.
Perhaps, you could put together a [insert your number]-step guide to something, and go ahead email your client base (well, I don't know how big yours is) about it and make them talk about it on social networks.

I see. Perhaps you could try to get some hotlinks to your images or surround them with more thematically relevant content.

If most of your traffic is coming from Google Images, then you likely have very low text content and a high degree of images? The good news is that you are optimizing your image content and layout well to get Google to want to use them. Whatever you are doing, don't change a thing.
However, 40-50 isn't significant. Your working with too small of a number to hold any statistical significance. Look at your log files. How many of those are search engine bots?
Get 1000+ a day and then talk about it. Drive more traffic through social networking. Create a Twitter account. Get followers. That will help improve traffic.

Here I could tell you something, you can Submit your site to as many search engines as much as possible, Have Dynamic content on your site - Message Board, Links Directory, Guest Book, Online Search, Picture Gallery, Quote of the day, News items, Site Search, Links Engine . I think this may satisfy visitors. and interested ones may come back. Good Day.
To get traffic is not a complex task in today's environment. There are thousands of social media sites available to which you can join to make your own community then to get traffic to your sites/ blogs. Link building, facebook, twitter and linkedIn are best options to start traffic generation campaigns.
