In my opinion: Both SEO and SMO are the best.

SEO = Free of cost, needs alot of hard work to create quality back-links, keyword research and analysis, content writing, directory submissions etc..

SMO= Paid campaigns are the best in SMO. It generates more traffic within few days..

SEO & SMO are both important. beacause SEO increase website rank & keywords value & SMO increase Social importance.
