How to get started internet marketing

Hello, my name is Mikey and I am on disability. I can't work due to my illness but i can work internet marketing. How do i get started? Here's the problem i had getting started

I launched a new website and built hundreds of social bookmarks to that website but nothing happened, no results, even waited 1 year for results and nothing happened.

On my 2nd attempt i opened a new website and paid someone from this site to build backlinks to my site. (Premium white hat SEO services) (Still waiting for results).

I don't understand why it is so difficult for me to rank a new website. I build backlinks and wait months for no results. What am i doing wrong? Is there any guides out there just for ranking new websites?

My questions are
Am i on the right track now, will i see results from my 2nd attempt?
Why is it so difficult to rank a new website?
Do you have any advice for me?
