In order to get powerful free backlinks I copy a one-word website with enough competition and look at its backlinks profile.

What other methods are there to get powerful backlinks for free?

I wrote a big write up on over 20 link building methods here. Feel free to check it out. Plenty of methods in order to get powerful editorial and authoritative backlinks.

It certainly CAN be done for free but it's going to take a lot of hard work.

Best option is creating a powerful evergreen page with definitive guide, interactive content or resource list.

After you create this content, you should run an outreach campaign offering site owners to share your creation.

You can use high-quality, reference text.
The reference text is very important because it gives the link the surrounding thematic text, which in turn either enters the anchor list or helps to get the maximum impact from the link.
