I've spoken with many people in the past that have issues or hard times getting traffic to their website. They say, "I offer a great service but I have no sales". A great service is simply not enough, you can have a great service but if people don't know about it, how do you expect to make sales? You can't! That's why the practice of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is crucial to the success of any online business or website owner. There are many factors that go into place when wanting to increase your online exposure which I'll be discussing in this thread.
Content:
Content is King, or so they say. How do Search Engines like Google determine what you're website is about? Your content! If you want to appropriately rank for your targeted keywords, be sure that your content is relevant to what you're wanting to rank for. Offering up to date informative/helpful information will not only get you ranking well, but it will keep you readers happy with the information they're receiving while keeping you a nice flow of returning visitors. Not only is the content it'self important, but adding new content on a regular basis is also very important. Google nor any other visitor to you site wants to see that the last update or article posted was three months ago, rather, post new content on a every other day basis ensuring that your content is fresh while also allowing Google to index new pages on your site which the Big "G" loves!
Backlinks:
Yes, probably thee "Most" important step in acquiring good rankings for your site on Google. Backlinks are links to your site from other websites and are predominantly derived from article marketing. Backlinks act as an online referral and help Google to see that you have a good level of reputability as if other sites are willing to post a link to your site from their site, you are obviously offering good, informative and helpful information. You can begin building backlinks by writing articles (If your website is based on "Dog Grooming", write a Dog Grooming article) and submitting them to article directories like Squidoo, HubPages and eZineArticles. When posting your article to these directories, be sure you leave a link to your website from the article. The beautiful thing about article marketing is lets say you submit your article on "Dog Grooming" for your Dog Grooming website, readers of your article are already interested in that topic and they now have the opportunity to click through to your website. Talk about free targeted traffic!
