Hello, BHW members!

I have been working on Upwork for a few months now and have received few responses to my proposals.
I send about 200 proposals monthly but only get 15-20 responses at best. I think that it is a low conversion rate, and other freelancers are getting more responses.

Could this be due to the cover letter writing, or are other factors that play a big role in getting a response?

Who can give some advice on my question?
I would especially appreciate those who have experience on Upwork as a freelancer or agency

Thanks, everyone

I've hired from Upwork, Freelancer, and many other platforms in the past. Usually, when we make a listing, we get an overwhelming number of responses. Are your "cover letters" too long? I would recommend a shorter, condensed reply that gets straight to the point. You need to really read in between the lines for what employers are looking for, echo it right back to them, and prove to them that you can do the job or have done it in the past.

This will make you stand out from the dozens of generic responses that get posted to these platforms.

I also thought about the fact that my proposal is still quite long (about 180-200 words). Perhaps the client is too lazy to read it.
What other factors do you pay attention to besides the text sentence? Does the profile rating or boost of a proposal strongly influence whether it will be viewed?

Some initial solid reviews help. No employer is going to read 100+ reviews. If you're targeting jobs that require very specific skills, you want to echo the employer's expectations back to them because they want to know you have those exact specific skills rather than having 100+ reviews with a generic response.

review will definitely help. also read the full list of things they are looking for and tell them that you can do xyz and that you have worked on a similar project ect. Don't send a copy paste message to them. they get flooded with auto response messages the minute they post the offer.
