Hi, thanks for reading! I joined this forum to hopefully get some help:p Here's the problem: I've made a forum to go with my humor blog, but after I was done I realized that I had no clue how to get people to join. I guess I just assumed people would come and want to join. Any ideas how to get people to join? People have visited, because it displays recent people online. But how do you get people to join? I'm not trying to become huge; just get a decent number of members to have a small community. Any ideas? The forum's address is forum.jokejungle. org Thanks in advance to any help; many of you are more experienced than I.

No one is going to post in an empty forum, so you need to hire some forum posters to start populating your forum with posts. Make sure they ask a lot of questions so people that visit your forum might be compelled to answer.

First off I was use vBulletin, it looks better and more people are familiar with it.

This is not blackhat so you're in the the wrong place. I would recommend adding some of your own content with funny videos etc to get some search engine traffic.

Remember no one will post if you don't have content first that is the key.

The aren't gonna join until you provide value enough to be worth their trouble.

Empty forum = no value.

Post valuable stuff and request registration to read more than one or two posts.

Take a look at poostloop.com, you pay people to make quality posts on your forum. Other than that, make a facebook fanpage, and promote that and update it regularly. You could also add a share content lock, so when people come to your forum, they have to share the forum ontheir wall.

Hope this helps, amd good luck :)

It's all about content.
Make fake accounts, post a few threads, get each of your fake accounts to interact, type differently, use different tones to mix it up.

Advertise everywhere, go join Forums that are related to yours and make some good posts, add your URL to your signature if that's allowed, don't ever spam or break the rules tough!

Tell your friends and family about the forum, ask anyone and everyone to join.

It's all about hard work really, and advertising as much as possible, when possible. That and a heap of content that people are going to want to sign-up to read or be a part of.

Thanks for the anwsers; yes, it's appears I have some work to do

Get some valuable content, require posts to unlock it :)

there's no easy way to populate a forum. Some software exists to automate the task, but most of them don't look very good. Check some of the other threads -- search for "forum autoposter".

Most forums allow you to import an rss feed into it. So that's one route you could go.

There's a script out there that retrieves Yahoo! Answers questions, posts them as threads, and all the answers are posted as replies. Of course you would set it to search for questions that pertain to your topics.

I forget what it's called so you'd have to search for it, but hopefully that will get you started.

I wouldn't recommend any of the automated scripts or anything that steals content from sites like Yahoo Answers. That type of content doesn't rank in search engines and may harm your site. For my sites, I use Postloop, however that isn't enough.

Postloop users aren't very good at creating new threads. They have decent replies, but you need lots of topics to make the forum look active. This can be done manually yourself or you can hire others to do it for you. One of my forums started with nothing and now it has over 2200 topics. Having so much content leads to quite a few Google hits. Occasionally when people like the topics being discussed, they will also sign up and start posting in the community.

I would personally outsource this problem to quality posters and pay them to get things going.
Second to that you can put some amazing content on the forum and the only way they can
access it is if they reach a certain post level.

Facebook, Youtube & Vimeo are going to be your best friends. Keywords for you are Fails, Pwn, Bloopers, Comedy, Stand Up Comedy, AFV (America's Funniest Videos), etc. You might want to hire someone from Elance to help you do this. Pay them as little as possible. $5 an hour and verify work each hour.

Also get some SEO on Fiverr to help promote your site. Only choose services with 98% rating or better, 6 month track record per offer or more, and 500 or more completed offers.

You'll need a Facebook Fanpage for your forum, 50K or more Facebook Fans, Linkwheel, High PR Do Follow Backlinks and RSS Feed. Total Price $25 Get the highest Rated in each feel.

Good Luck :)

Use http://boardreader.com/ to find relevant topics to your forum.

Populate your forum with some topics of other forums, have some sleeper accounts on your forum and make it look active.

thanks for all the answers; I'm not to keen on the idea of fake accounts, but paying people a small amount to give my forum good content is a good idea.

Quality information and shares. That's the only way you can increase traffic on your forum.
