How to get listed in this section?

Hey guys. What is this section called? And how do I focus on getting listed in it?

Google places. Fill in a google places application for your business and they will send you out a confirmation pin code to your address to enter. Usually takes 6 weeks and getting listed is very much geo targeted.

ok I have a googles places account. How do I work on getting it listed at the top?

I think there was a thread recently where someone with more knowledge than me showed how you could boost you gravity through citations--G+ and/or authorship if applicable. For me its was easy enough with an established business in a not heavily populated area. The main factor that G are trying to serve is correct location based on the askers enquiry. I know the camera shop in NY is only an example but that would be a pretty hard one !

Its really weird because my IT services site was showing up in this list, but didn't for awhile (I figured Google got greedy). I'm going to check it out now and see what's changed..
