Can anyone tell me or help me possibly get a .edu email address from somewhere in the US...there is a website out of Australia that I can get an edu from but i really want to get an edu from somewhere in the US. Is this possible at all? Does anyone have an edu domain at all by any chance?

Thanks!

I think your best bet would be emailing random schools and asking for emails (pretending to be a student in their school). I still have my .edu email from school and it's been proving pretty useful :D.

Why is it useful? I have two .edu emails and they are no use to me.

These are useful because they don't require phone verification on most sites :)))))))))) Such as facebook. Not sure about CL to, but it wouldn't suprise me.

Shoptrade224....you have been reported for your stupid spam

xfactornos - Because i am setting up an account on a site that needs me to be from a school or at least have an edu address and i dont have one. I could use the one i know of out of Australia but im trying to look more legit

I went to Colorado state university and I have prb 6 emails with them between the CS department and general student emails. I bet they would prb give you an account if you emailed them and told them your EID wasn't working.

He sells .EDU domains

What kind of .edu domains? ANY domain name, like www.coedporn.edu?

Be kind of interesting to have an .edu domain. :-) Now that you've brought it up, how does one get a legit .edu domain? Obviously you've got to show that your a school, but can you get a domain for something small like an auto driving school? How small can you be?

...
LOL, I guess attendance wouldn't be a problem at that school. ;)

I wonder if google would give more weight based on the tld if it was some random name .edu like that. For the right project it might be worth pursuing a .edu tld like that. If its possible.

This is from the FAQ of the non profit foundation EDUCAUSE,who are responsible for the registration of .edu domains...

What are the eligibility requirements for obtaining a name in the .edu domain? Eligibility for a .edu domain name is limited to U.S. postsecondary institutions that are institutionally accredited, i.e., the entire institution and not just particular programs, by agencies on the U.S. Department of Education's list of Nationally Recognized Accrediting Agencies. These include both "Regional Institutional Accrediting Agencies" and "National Institutional and Specialized Accrediting Bodies" recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Note that institutional accreditation is required for .edu eligibility; program accreditation is not sufficient. Not all agencies accredit institutions. Some accredit only institutions, some accredit only programs, and others accredit both institutions and programs.

It is also important to note that, while every effort is made to keep the EDUCAUSE list up-to-date, the U.S. Department of Education's list of Nationally Recognized Accrediting Agencies and State Agencies are the only official comprehensive lists of agencies.
No way they would let coedporn.edu be registered...but damn that would be a great domain.

Oh and this little tidbit also from their FAQ

6.Why do some organizations have .edu domain names even though they do not meet the eligibility requirements?

The Cooperative Agreement between EDUCAUSE and the U.S. Department of Commerce specifies that all .edu names in existence as of October 29, 2001 are "grandfathered", regardless of current or past eligibility requirements.

i used to work for a community college. all you had to do was do the online application and a few days later you'd get your college ID and email address in the mail.

Apply to one of the community colleges that has a $20 application fee or less and use the username given to login the site to create e-mail id.

Sign up there. I have one from them, it just takes some time for them to verify it.

Dropbox gives doubles the space for .edu mail accounts.
