If you're ready to pay a FAT price tag then I'm sure many on BHW can get it for you.
I'm not sure but I've seen prices range anywhere from $5k to $15k - its wild pricing but some can definitely get it done if you can pay up.

I'm thinking about trying to get the blue tick. I'm not "famous" but I've published some books with a big international publishing house and I've done interviews for big media, been nominated for an award... could it work?

On the other hand, would it be bad for growing my account? For example maybe the follow back ratio will slow down because it would be obvious that I will not follow that person.

write your some blogs on different sites and ask IG to verify your profile after that.

Sounds like you can get it, but it wont be easy.

why do you guys bother with IG? How much traffic are you getting from it? isn't pinterest or SEO just so much easier?

Just become famous, if you want to avoid paying hefty prices for blue tick. You will get blue tick verified by becoming famous.
