How to get blog comments?

I'm having an issue with regards to blog comments on one of my main sites which gets an average 250 unique visits a day. The site has a mix of reviews and informative articles (unique articles)

I make a decent living off this site, and I should in fact not complain. However I can't help but notice that my site comments are very low compared to the visits.

My comments section doesn't have the website field as I wanted to avoid spam comments.

Can someone suggest any tips on how I can get more comments?

Have you been responding to the comments that you do get? And if so have you been doing it in a friendly manner?

For instance are you thanking people for commenting and maybe asking them follow on questions to help generate discussions rather than just making a single comment? I have found that this works on some of my blogs...

Yes.. almost immediately and the ones who comment do reply back.

I've removed the website section.. so it includes only name, email and comments.. but the reason for this is because I do not want spam comments on my blog.

Apart from this, I can't really figure out the reason.

if i can share some experienced that i have

i think it's was because the unique article itself, if you want to people comment on your blog i think you must write another article like about "sharing life exprience" or something else that make people not only looking at the article but really want to try asking you...

As you put the unique and informative articles so it little bit difficult to reduce your site visitors. So it is also difficult to reduce the spam comments. You can try to banned the spam comments. You can put a alert notice on the home page of comments.

Wish I could.. but monetary compensation for comments isn't a good practice as it's not a genuine comment. I use a comment validator plugin, perhaps i'll try disabling it to see if it is of any help.
