Some Forum posts and guest post are easy to get free. But it doesn't give a great result.

Build them manually? Links are not going to build themselves ya know not unless you have a really awesome content that will rock the internet and make a lot of buzz...

More the relevant backlinks to your site more is chances that your site will rank higher

Identify backlink types and classify them into groups and look for free ways of getting them. The best ones would require that you know how to produce good quality content so you can get a link back in exchange for it.
