I know what you're probably thinking. But no, this isn't BS.
Go to http://www.megafoo.com/free-links/ and submit your homepage URL in the box.
Your URL will then be submitted to 45+ whois, alexa, HTML validator type of sites along with a few others.
What you'll get is a directory page that looks like this.
Do you notice all of the links to the sites on the left? Your domain now has a page on these sites.
*NOW HERE'S THE MOST IMPORTANT PART*
You're going to have to give your URL at Megafoo some links so that all of these pages get indexed by Google and counted as backlinks.
If you just submit your URL and leave it at that this will do _nothing_ for you.
