How to further expand (60K Subs)

So a good bud of mine has 60K subs on youtube and is well known in his Niche's community. He hasn't done any SEO or anything just make videos, put simple tags in the comments and that's it. What can he start with or anything he should be doing to expand his size while keeping quality?
