[How to] Full Nights Sleep in 2 Hours – Case Study

I'm sure one or two of you will try this hard-core and think it is working because you feel euphoric after a couple days. Please keep an eye on yourself, that euphoria can slide into hallucinations and then madness. I know when I have stayed up too long when I can hear a radio playing in another room. I don't even own a radio.

work smarter not longer.

Giraffes sleep 5 hours a night. The time frame listed above is a misconception.

One side effect to doing this is that you basically have 20 hours a day and this makes it very scary. I would be awake in the middle of the night with nothing to do and time began to dilate and slow down for me. Also, it is very crucial that you do not miss a nap or oversleep, that usually leads to a lot of bad things.

In the end, I discovered that there was really nothing of benefit to doing this except that I had 20 hours a day which isn't necessarily a good thing either.

Right now I am pretty much bi-phasic, I take a siesta and sleep about twice a day.

Despite all the criticisms to the Uberman, it was still a very good experience and I learned a lot about sleep and how much the body needs it to function well.

This is not true, and the lowest limit of sleep you can get and still feel normal, energized and restarted is 6 hours. I've been testing trough the years and I've been sleeping 3 hours during the day, and 3 hours during the night and I felt more energized than sleeping full 8 hours trough the night. This is because during the day you are stressing the body and brain with the full 15-16 hours of activity, so you need to make a balance with short sleeps. It is also very good if you sleep 4 hours during the day and 4 hours during the night. Your body will feel much more energized as there will be a time balance in spending energy and renewing energy. Productivity levels will certainly increase 20-30% as your brain will be prepared for all sorts of tasks.

The most important part of quality sleep is getting into rem. People find this very hard to control and can't get into rem immediately after going to bed. but over time while watching some videos about hypnosis I found out that when you go to sleep, if you start breathing very slow and deep, and stop thinking about anything and just go into a complete darkness (I imagine space) you go into rem almost 90% of the time and you will be getting high quality sleep.

You will find it hard at the beginning to stop thinking about anything but after a week or two you will get used to it and you will find how easy it is to fall into deep sleep.

And spending too much time in front of the pc is definitely bad for your sleep. Be very careful to spend your time effective and productive.

Exercises and stretches before going to sleep will also allow you to go into deep sleep fast and wake up easier, full of energy.

I am missing the point, you want to be a workaholic? I thought you wanted to be rich. If you get X/hour and you get say 4 more hours of work, you 've only upped your income by 50% (assuming you worked 8 hours). So what?

The idea is to make your X/hour go to 100*X/hour etc.

I've been a fan of this idea every since I heard it years ago. It's excites the intellect with possibilities and controversy! Never tried it though. I even entertained trying it when I saw this thread but of all the comments it is this comment by jazzc that destroys the soundness of this idea.

Thomas Alva Edison did something like this with a purpose in mind. He slept in his lab in a straight chair holding a long steel bar in his lap. Whenever he when into deep sleep the steel bar fell out of his hands and lap waking him from theta and delta so he could remember dreams about problems he was working on.

Materialist doctors and scientist don't even understand all the functions about sleep. You can go without food waaay longer than u can without sleep. That should say something about it's importance. 5 hours sleep, and a 90 minute nap later that day after lunc, his a good cycle for college and IM with at least one day in the week where u sleep as much as u want.

This is a similar method Bill Gates used to do to be able to stay up coding as much for microsoft as possible. Great info!

Hallucinations and paranoia... somebody mentioned them. They are epic. Combined with poor memory and lack of focus they make for an awesome ride (in a bad way). It's like you're high on some bad shit.

About requiring just 6 hours of sleep if REM - everybody is different. I do 10h of REM many times. I have night when I am in REM most of the night. Sometimes I sleep 5 hours and I wake up like I had a ton of energy blow inside my mind and body. Other times I sleep 12 hours and feel like shit. I average 10 hours. I also have a perticular schedule as number of hours I sleep + number of hours awake is a number greater than 24. In other words I am "cycling" over a longer period, some days I sleep during night, some i sleep during first part of the morning, others during noon, others during evening, etc. Thing is I sleep 10 hours on average and stay awake 16-20 hours or more. I guess you could say I naturally "optimized" my sleep lol. You'd be wrong. The key in life is not to have lots of time to work. The key in life is to NOT WORK AT ALL :)

After many years of working 18 hrs a day, I decided that it wasn't worth it. Now I make time to live and sleep. There's more to life than just working...

This sounds interesting! I may try the method some day.

There was an historic figure I can't remember who it was but they use to take a power nap for 15 minutes every hour. That way they would work for 20 and sleep for 4.

no for me it is not for the money. it is so i can get my online stuff done in the middle of the night and have all day to do whatever i want lol

UPDATE: I have not been tired that much, i am starting to fall asleep faster and faster. However this schedule is a bit annoying, i am thinking about changing to more of a biophasic sleep schedule.

4 hours coresleep, 1 hour nap. Which will still give me 3 hours more of being awake and train myself to wake at an earlier hour.

I will let you know what i decide to do..

This would`ve been amazing, but certain studies say otherwise:

i attempted the uberman sleep schedule a few years ago.. tried several times and could never get it to work for more than a week at a time. being awake 22 hours every day is amazing though haha.

so.. how're you holding up after 4 months?

xD

This is kinda interested case study, but i think that only Tesla had knowledge on how to sleep less than 2 hours per day and feel great ;).

But, why do you guys even need this?
I mean, i do have those working nights and it happens to me few times that i hadn't slept for 3 days in total ( yes more than 72 hours w/o sleep ) but then i take at last 10 hours of sleep next day and i feel good. I usually sleep each day for 3-4 hours and it's ok, to be honest i can't remember last time when i went to bed while it was still dark outside hahaha.
Basically i way more like to take 2 - 3 days of constant work ( taking breaks for toilet, eating and drinking and maybe going outside for a coffee with friends or family ) and finish all most important parts of a new project at once. True, i have to take some redbulls, some cigarettes and a lot of caffeine , but what you can do :)

I read about stuff like this on the Steve Pavlina site. They made it sound amazing so I knew I had to do it.

I experimented with biphasic sleeping for a few days. Bad idea for me... I was staying home with my kids at the time and couldn't help but doze off one afternoon. I literally couldn't help it - I was that tired. When I woke up, there was cereal all over the house and pee on the floor. Never again.

You guys are talking here like as if sleep is detrimental to work and we should somehow do away with sleep so we can work more. The reality is that we work hard so we can actually eat well and sleep in peace, right?

Do you guys see the irony and the weirdness? We've probably got our priorities really messed up somehow.

This is really not true. It definitly will cause deseases and long time damages to your body.
My girlfriend studies psychology and had to write a seminar paper about sleep, REM phases and the expermints / case studies that have been done. They all had different results in particular elements, but under the line it was clear that therories like from OP, will harm your body massively over the long term.

so kids, please don't try this at home.
