I have recetly been trying to squeeze as much as I can out of Scrapebox. Recently, as a test, I tried to use SB to autopost comments on by blogs where I have Akismet enabled. To my surprise, Akismet picked up my comment and blocked it! That is good news on one hand, because I DO get a lot of spammy comments every now and again, but bad news on the other hand, because that means my comments are being blocked by Akismet as well!

I think I've written a pretty decent comment, I spin it and always customise it for the keywords I search - for instance (that is not what I am doing, just to give you an example) when I am looking for blogs with keyword "iphone" I would add a sentence "I read somewhere about this iphone issue" or something along there lines, to give an impression that I read the article. Naturally my comment is a lot longer than one sentence.

Is there any way to fool Akismet? A few things come to my mind:

  • I generate emails with SB - maybe this is relevant - include email addresses that look a bit more genuine like firstname.lastname at nameofsomerandomcompany
  • Name of the poster - should I use the keyword, or a regular name (like John or Jim) - does commenting with your keyword as an anchor increase the value of the link?
  • Any thoughts on personalising the comment? I try not to include a link into the comment - would you recommend it?
Any help is appreciated!

lol. so i guess this post doesnt motivate much in regards to newbie.. hehe.

There's another blog post (the adminstrator of this board won't let me tell you where it is) where Akismet problems have been discussed at length. As a result I've stopped using Akismet on any blogs where I want comments. I use a blacklist and si-captcha-for-wordpress to minimize the nuisance of spam.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you are not using proxies, and this is why Akismet is banning you.

Getting around Akismet-

- Use Proxies
- Spin comments
- Spin usernames
- Limit comments per day to 40-50 or use multiple domains for link.

My guess is you are not doing 1 and 4. Personally I don't think blog comments are nearly as effective as they used to be.
