How to find if website theme requires license?

About 2 years ago i bought a template for a website. I believe its coded in laravel.

The person that sold it to me told me it's a 1 website licence. So i can only use the template on 1 website.

But he set up the site for me, so i didnt really get a licence code/key or anything like that.

And i always wondered if what he told me is true or if he said it to prevent me from using the template on multiple sites without paying him, or from reselling the template, etc.

So i wonder, is there a way for me to check if the site actually requires a license to run?

if you have access to the source code, you can try to find variable with "license" word in it

I do have it.

So using notepad++ to search through all the files for the word, is that it?

Sometimes thats it
You can also check if its checking license with there is "if" syntax near it
