Hey guys,
I'm looking to get a really experienced and highly skilled web dev team together because I want them to create a killer web product based off my idea! Payment will be exquisite ofc, but ..

HOW can I find a trustworthy, professional team? How do big companies go for the good web dev teams?

Pls don't message me with things like " I can get your stuff done" blah! I'm curious to find out how companies solve this "problem"

Thanks guys

Big companies hire people through connections and by giving people job offers.
Honestly, I seriously doubt you'd have the investment or ideas needed to pull together an actual professional development team.

well honestly, the thign is you dont know me and you don't know what i'm doing ;) but thanks anyways for your response

curious to hear what others have to say

It's TOUGH to find a good team, you might have a better chance of just going to a company that has a high reputation (local if possible so you can meet face 2 face), but just going to Elance or BHW and finding someone that can give you exactly what you want might be a big ask.

Well honestly, considering the way you're typing and your general lack of knowledge in this field, I very much doubt you would be able to throw together a decent development team.

If you're really serious, you'll either be looking at around $500,000-$1,000,000 annual investment for a skilled development team in salaries or an extremely good idea and be prepared to offer decent equity (possibly alongside a salary if they don't already know you, which I doubt they do) so maybe $100,000-$250,000 investment for salaries plus being prepared to give away a large portion of equity in your company.

If you're looking for serious specialists in certain fields, expect these estimates to be a lot higher - and bear in mind that a lot of developers won't be prepared to work for you for an inflated salary if your idea is awful anyway.

Well, this is the hardest thing to know and if would be there a formula for this, all in the whole world would be happy multi-millionaire.

But generally, you can find these persons/teams on google, but form my experience, these companies are too busy on working on their own projects or on projects for their clients. The second way is to find them on oDesk/Elance (my recommendation - go for individuals, not for teams, just a personal experience).

Also you can PM me :) I am also pretty active on oDesk.

thanks guys,
jfoulds: i write like a mofo if i want to, its the intenret, i can be really professional in rl etc so dont judge on the text here etc.

lets not talk about budget etc. lets just assume (because it doesnt make any sense to say here 'hey guys i make six figures online' blah). i have been working alone my whole life and now i want to invest in something else to grow!

yes, i dont have experience in THIS field thats why i'm asking here right? at least i can bring a "bit" of cash to the table and learn from it! :)

jfoulds you have been only talking about the money but not HOW to meet these teams, not where to find them etc. THATS the question!

EDIT: I will NOT look on elance, freelancer etc. this is definitely not happnin

For the record, I've never met anyone who's an actual marketing/development professional who types in horrific English online, but sure.

As I've already said, even if you do make six figures online, awesome, you'll be able to pay maybe one developer (if you're lucky) for one year based of this while you have to live of absolutely nothing for an entire year. The reason I'm bringing up the money is because I seriously doubt you understand what you are asking for, if you're telling me you've got near enough $500,000 to invest (and won't be screwed if the project goes south) then fair enough, but I seriously, seriously doubt this.

You meet these people by (big surprise), working with these people, or working with people who work with these people. Anyone who is an actual professional developer isn't going to go searching around freelance websites looking for jobs. These people either join start-up companies through word of mouth or they stick to the bigger technology companies.

I'd try and attend some networking events for these types of people, make some friends, have an incredible concept, and be ready to hand over $500,000 and up to 75% equity in your company to get them on board.

alright, thanks and btw: i'm german so sorry for my lack of proper english- kudos to you judging me on my english typing skills in a FORUM.

so what i've leant:

- visit networking events
- look locally for good agencies with a good reputation

anything else ? :)

There are a huge number of international BHW members who display excellent English skills, despite it not being their native tongue - several of whom who speak in multiple languages as it is, but again, meh.

That's pretty much it, if you're looking for a 'really experienced and highly skilled' development team, these are not the sort of people you will find through any agency.

heyya guys, me again..

i will be flying around in a bit so i could be looking for local web dev teams in several places this way! this may be worth a shot for sure!

the other thing might be to connect with other startups etc. and ask them and give them percentages on what i pay their web dev team!

lets see how this pans out...

am open for new ideas as well so dont hesitate, just wrtie them down :-)

There's no way in hell any start-up company will let you poach their web development team in return for a percentage commission, that's just not what a start-up would be interested in.

I'm overseeing the website rebuild on the brand I work on. The conceptual & physical build alone is costing $300,000+ , and this figure doesn't take into account upkeep costs thereafter.

i'm german

Hi I'm a software-/webdeveloper based in germany and I have alot of experience with getting the jobs, here is how I do it usually:

I'm getting my freelancer jobs trough temporary employment agencies like hays.de, goetzfried-ag.com and univativ.de (students). Then there are project portals like gulp.de, projektwerk.com and you can check out local web agencies.

In all cases you'll have to invest alot of money/equity and you need to have time, because almost everybody is very busy.

PM me if you want some further information or somebody that takes a quick glance at your idea.

Hey pizzapill,
PM me pls your skype :)

lets see...

how to get people working for you?

you send out job ads on big job sites like monsters.com and recruit your staff based on the skills you need. good luck managing them if you don't know what you are doing.

really, its not any different than any normal job, which make your question kind of weird.

i thought about looking for a team as it is not building a team :)

That's not how web developers work.
Considering your huge lack of knowledge in this area, I'm guessing you've got a 'cool idea' for an app/website that you think can make you billions and you're looking for a 'team of really experienced and highly skilled web developers' to make your idea a reality so you can all become overnight millionaires.

As I've said, unless you've got near enough $500,000 to invest and an absolutely incredible idea - this isn't going to happen.
So I'd stop wasting your time.

Really depends what you are looking to do and how big is the project. Sometimes you might think you need a 'team' when just couple of people will do. I recently built a social network / dating site using just 1 designer and 1 developer both hired from BHW and they both did a great job.

But if you do need a bigger team then i would recommend putting out a job Ad in your local area on sites in your country like Craigslist (for US) and Gumtree (for UK) and try to find out of work, out of luck (there is a huge unemployment in Europe right now with many good people out of work) but highly skilled and motivated individuals willing to work for a smaller fee to get a bit of money coming in and also recent experience. Also these people will be ready and available to start work straight away and no waiting for someone to finish work on another project.
