How to enforce Copyright???

I saw some ebooks by an author that have been taken down from ALL the torrent sites and replaced with this;
"In response to a complaint we received under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), we have removed this result."

I'm writing some copyrighted ebooks that I don't want shared on torrent sites so I'd like to be able to get them taken down like that if they do surface. How did they manage to serve the sites with DMCA and have them comply? I would surely have thought that the bigger corporations would just have their lawyers send the same thing out if that's all it took. What happened?

You (read: your lawyer) will need to send the offending sites a proper cease and desist letter for copyright infringement, truthful and accurate under the penalty of perjury. It opens both parties up for legal liability. The offending site can go to court to have a judge decide wether or not they are infringing (you run the risk of being made to pay the legal fees). If the offending site doesn't comply, it exposes them to legal liability and you can sue them for copyright infringement and damages.

In any case, consult a lawyer.

How do you find out the details of who/where to send it to the owner of the site? What if they are in another country? And how are you going to take someone to court, if that is not an empty threat, if all you have is an email address or user name? Don't say subpoena who owns the IP addresses because that is a difficult process and rarely leads back to the culprit and evidence of who the offending party is, especially if they're in another country.

Good luck with stopping your ebook from being shared. You won't be able to. Better idea, include your affiliate links wherever you can put them discretely, at least as your book gets passed around your affiliate links get exposure and you earn commissions. By the way this is how the creators of free to distribute PLR products make money, and just about every Clickbank product vendor I have seen also does it.

Actually, a lawyer can. I saw this in the adult field. People were using some of the Tabasco stuff on their site. "Smoking hot girls" and such. The company apparently had a scorched earth policy. They went right up the chain to the host, IP and then a step above that. Not entirely sure how it worked, but they tracked them down eventually. It was nasty. Even when it went out of the country, they were able to do it. Followed one kid to Spain and then Israel.

Now, I doubt your $200 an hour attorney is going to be able to do that. This was some big firm out of New York that I am sure charged a freaking arm and a leg. Still, it can be done.

An easier way to go is to copyright your ebook with the Library of Congress. Then hire a lawyer to send out the notices as mentioned in the post above. If the hosts/offending sites don't take it down, they are one the hook if you can prove you own the copyright. You obviously can because you copyrighted it.

Im making a website selling a ebook about marketing on twitter..
The domain doesn't mention twitter; but in the sales letter it mentions twitter word..
And in the ebook obviously mentions twitter..
Can I get in trouble mentioning TWITTER?? Can Twitter be mad that im teaching people how to advertise and make their business grow on twitter??
