There are many ways, everything depends on what website you have.
On a basic level, if you are building a content site then focus on adding as much content as you can and then slowly start building links and get some traffic flowing. Once organic traffic starts to come naturally everyday, look for monetization options and make money.

My advice is to learn how to do sales & marketing first. Find a business near you and tell them you will run their sales & marketing for $50/mo. Or do it for free. You just want to learn how to sell something. Once you learn and perfect that, then you can charge them more money or charge other businesses for your actual skill that you developed. But first you need to put in the time and energy to learn to sell.
