I am following the a100k method and I'm wondering how the rest of you document your SEO efforts and track effectiveness. I know there are a lot of tools out there to check your ranking and see which backlinks are indexed, but I'm interested in what format people record this information in.

I don't want to end up in a situation where I just feel a certain method worked without having some documented data. I think that this information will be helpful in the future too as I start on another niche.

Any ideas or good ways of doing this? Thanks!

Use Excel to record data
Use TrafficTravis to see ranking updates
Even keep notes in a physical diary/stickies

Excel data for documentation.
then check the search position in seoserp dot com. and check your rank in page rank checker.
thats all i think.

this is a major concern of mine as well, and would love to hear what some of the high volume guys are using. I constantly read about case studies and people explaining exactly what did and didnt work, people haveing dozens of test sites, ect...this gets out of control fast.

I haven't heard anyone talk about this, and I've even looked around for logging software and cant find anything.

For the time being i just keep a journal in excel. Include dates, notes, keywords used, urls pointed to, type of backlink, then you can compare against a graph of some rank tracking software (i use rank tracker) and when you see inflection points in the graph look back at your excel file around that date to see what could have caused the changes. Really wish there was specalized software to keep an seo diary, but for now excel seems like the best

Thanks CloneX and futurestic06. Any chance we can see a screenshot of the excel logs? I'm just trying to see what columns you have what kind of info you record, not trying to see your actual data.

Not possible mate.. I have loads of data in it, so can't share that.

Basically, you need to revisit your methods, stats, potentials, goals etc, and then document them as according.

For eg, if you are using Amazon, you might wanna have columns of clicks received, clicks shown by Amazon, orders received, date, income, investment etc..
