    Hello BHW,

I need help in SEO for my general health niche site. I know what keywords I need to target if I have micro niche site, but I'm lost if I have broad site. If you understand me what im talking about.

    For Example: http://www.health.com/

I have same looking website with many articles in different fields. I know that If I want to target broad health keywords that the competition will be to large.

Should I rather try to rank the post instead of index?

This is making a trouble in my head, because I'm planing to buy some high pr backlinks and I don't know what to do with them, I'm kinda lost. I would really appreciate if you can help.

    Thanks in forward.

    Kind Regards

I will say continue to target the less competitive keywords and gradually target the broad keywords.

No matter which way you look at it, if deep inside you feel a need to rank for the broad keywords, you just have to do it. Nothing is impossible.

Also if you feel ranking for the post will make your work easier then do that. Distribute your high pr links to strengthen your position for certain keywords you feel are bringing in good traffic.

    You can do it.

    Wishing you all the best.

Thank you very much. This helped me a lot.

I will try to rank for a broad keyword on index. I will start researching to find some less competitive keywords to rank my posts, this would be a shorter and faster for now, eventually I can rank for a broad keyword but that takes a lot of time and good effort.

Thanks for helping. I really appreciate it.

I know, but is better to use them correctly rather than throwing random keywords. I'm currently doing some press release articles.

    Upcoming plan:
Social Promotion - Try to make my site presence on social networks.
Paid Blog Posts on good established sites.
    PR Articles
    Link Buying
Active Forums Profile - with signature.
    Making some videos.

Basically my goal is not to have top seo, but to run a helpful site too. Please share some methods and seo advices if have one and what do you think about the plan?

    Kind Regards!

Pick your root keyword, and then find 5 high traffic keywords. The more closely these are related to your root keyword, and each other, the easier it will be to rank.. Write your home page to generally target all 6 keywords, use the root in the title, at the beginning of the description, and in the h1 tags.

Write a strong opening for the root keyword and seqway into the secondary ones. Use an h2 heading for the 5 secondary keywords, and link this heading text to a page about this keyword only.

On the home page under each h2 tag, put about 4 or 5 sentences about the keyword, on the link destination page, put a good article. Make sure this article repeats the keyword in its corresponding h2 tag.

The more closely related the keywords in the h2 tags to the home page title, the easier to rank the site.

Remember the saying "Go deep, not wide". The more general the site, the wider it is.

You can have a health site that covers cancer, vasectomies, plastic surgery, sports injuries, and podiatry. This will be much harder rank than a general site focused on women's health, or sports injuries, or problems of the foot.

It might be advisable (and certainly easier) to build the reputation of the site in a deep fashion, then widen it out as time goes on and the domain builds authority, because it will rank faster with a narrower focus.

Siloing the site will be a BIG help, and the wider the site, the more necessary it is to silo.

    • Every page should be tuned for a single ideal search term.
    • Title, Meta Description, Content, URL, etc should reference that search term (exact match).
    • External links should be rel="nofollow"
    • Use canonical URL tags to avoid duplicate content indexing issues within your own site

For a general site "long tail keywords" is your strategy. Do keyword research to find the right well trafficked keywords to tune your pages to.

Plan on running the site for at least ten months to get past all the google "new site" sandboxing. (results may vary)

It's very difficult promoting a very horizontal site. The more horizontal it is, the bigger the advertising budget.

As validseo pointed out, if you make each page a "vertical" you can target one subject per page and build links to that specific page, but if your site is large and very horizontal, you'll be spending a lot of time and $ in promoting each individual section.

Find a focused vertical that may make your site popular and aim for that until you're a top result for that, then go for others. Just my 2 cents about that.
