After the update subpages are ranking well but home page is not where what to do..? Should I start with baack-linking to subpages or wait for some more time.

It's hard as fuck to tell what will revive the sites that got hit. It's too soon to have a working solution to this. At best we can throw shit against the wall and see what sticks.

That being said, I would focus my efforts on building new sites. Most of what worked well before Penguin 2.1 will also work well now. It'll just get smacked at the next Penguin iteration, but hopefully by then we will have figured out how to fix it.

Yeah I think so, should I leave those sites as they are and start focusing on new sites or with new sites also continue back-linking to the old sites.

You said the sub pages are ranking well after the update then the home page is what you should focus on.

Normally, you should send the best types of links to your home page so that i can become authority over time...

This will also help your inner pages rank freely and easily with a few backlinks.

Yeah I love these types of threads in a painful sense.

How can I change something overnight that's not working and be sure its going to work ?

the answer is its too soon to know - you have to wait - and use better techniques to overcome any short term instability.

I would imagine for most people starting a new site after every update isn't going to cut it -- so better to use best practices and reduce the chances of penalties from the start.

Yeah but sub pages are not on top 10 the are in top 20 or in 30

Have you checked all the basic on site stuff for the home page? Might be something obvious causing it to not be ranked

I have checked all the stuff but still confused what to do.

Remove any spam with the disvow tool, update the homepage content and build the site out a bit. If the profits aren't worth the effort, move on.

I'd recommend that you search around the BST and look for a good Private Blog Network service to help rank your site(s) while also helping to increase your authority. As of now with all of the updates that have been coming out it's important to only build safe and trusted links that you know will not bring a penalty to your site(s). Here's a service from BigBuddy that you can check out below that looks to be promising:

I hope this helps and I wish you luck!

The client doesn't pay that much so any other solution.

Sounds like a overoptimization filtering, not a penalty. Remove some of the keyword density from it. If this does not recover it, check if any of your redirects may have "run over" your homepage...sometimes when you redirect XXX to YYYY, the homepage of XXX will disappear.... HTH

Here's a radical idea for you - if your inner pages are ranking well, and assuming they're the ones that earn you money and they are optimised for their keywords - then why worry about your home page?

I've managed to recover 1st page rankings for 2 sites, one of them is no.1 and I have just worked on the actual pages that earn the money - 5 pages on the site that's 1st for the main earning page - why waste my time on the other 95 pages?

They might lead to a few more sales, but it's not worth the effort.
