how to do SEO for static site?

hello,

Mostly ive been messing around with Wordpress and become very good with that and SEO with it. Now i have a static site that does not have any kind of updated contact like blog posts.

What are some tactics for getting good rankings with these type of sites? I know the typical blog comments, backlinks etc, but the on page seo is a issue because content is not updated.

why cant you add content to it though, why does it have to be 'static'
 
its a business site, i cant add content like i would on a blog. I dont see how i can add content if there is no place to add it lol
 
create sub pages, then build back links to those new pages.... if the site doesnt grow....google has nop reason to come back to re index content
 
Errr.... add a blog? Static no more. :D
 
Just keep adding pages, and build links to them.
 
One GOOD way that I can think of is to have feeds on the page. Probably feeds of other business sites, then the content will change by showing maybe 2-3 excerps from other sites. Plus if they are other business sites you will actually help your ranking by linking to relevant sites.
 
Why not replace the blog with a company news page? That way you can still occasionally update the content in a blog-type way.
 
why not...

1) do specific and unique title tags for each page that contains your keywords as close to the front of the title as possible

2) add specifc and unique call to action description meta text thats not more than 155 characters long to each page

3) have specific keywords wrapped in h1, h2, h3 tags again make them unique to each page

4) have good specific content unique to each page

5) bold and italicize some of your keywords

6) wrap your most specific and import text in div tags and position them in your source code as close to the top as possible

7) make sure you anchor text your keywords so they link to a relevant page - ie widgets goes to a page called widgets.html thats also optimized...

8) have an image thats called your keyword ie widgets.jpg

9) have an image with an appropriate keyword alt tag

10) link your image as referenced in step 8 to a page similar to that in step 7

11) have call to action on the site to actual capture your visitors information and/or make them want to become a customer...

12) do not use flash or images for your menu

13) do not create your entire site in flash unless you know exactly what you are doing...

14) create a sitemap both html, xml and and as an rss feed

15) then and only then start considering doing your backlinking... dont forget to submit your rss feeds to rss syndication sites...

It's not that difficult and shouldn't really take you that long to implement either

Thanks guys, Im putting in a blog to my site, is it better for it to be like blog.xxxx.com or xxx.com/blog?

Im going to put my feed for my blog on my homepage so peeople can be updated.

I have keywords and descriptions for all my pages so thats good.
