How to do PPC the right way?

I have seen a lot of people mention PPC and even some vague attempts to explain what it is all about. But are there any good resources that can not just explain what PPC is but also explain what works and what doesn't? Why some ways work better than others? Or at the very least how best to word an ad so that you don't get 100s of simply curious clicks and instead actually get interested buyers?

I'm not looking for someone to hold my hand or spoon feed me anything. I just can't afford to spend money on hit or miss tries that have no real chance of making me any money before I run out of resources. So if there is a good resource somewhere online that can be used as a good place to start rather than just someone giving drips and dribbles of info then expecting $$$ for the rest, please post a link.

Try getting those $100 coupons for adwords or facebook and test some campaigns out yourself. You'll be glad you did. Remember testing and tweaking your campaign is key to making that money.

ppchero.com and ppc.bz are two good blogs to start with, there are plenty of other good PPC resources out there if you google for them.

Other than that, just spend several days surfing around Adwords et al, looking at the ads, looking for high volume advertisers, and working out what works and what doesn't.

PPC is one of the most competitive areas there is... No one's going to give it all to you on a plate.
