LOL - I don't know if that's because of a political or other bias, but even the NYT may have decent info every once in a while, especially in an article like this where all they do is quote others...

the fingerprint method is good.

Requesting a lost driver license like a lost newspaper is a joke.

And the Big One the hardest to get nowadays is a new Social Security number in the USA.
Any applicant over 18 years old is required to appear in person for a face to face interview almost always in a Federal building with the FBI within walking distance right down the hall.
You better have an amazing story and nerves of steel at this point.
SS numbers have been issued to infants since the 1980's so,,
it's going to look extremely odd that you have never had a social security number now in 2011.

Agreed I lost my SS card like 3 months ago. You have to have your drivers license and birth certificate in hand to get another one and it fill out a nice long form. They said you could mail it but you actually have to either mail the originals or get it copied in the presence of a notary so I just went in - not gonna put my DL in the mail and wait on the govts slow ass to get it back.

Also with the new laws last time I got a replacement DL you had to have your SS card and birth certificate and know the info tied to your DL on the system. So really I can't see you getting a fake replacement DL easily.

It was such a hassle and I am who I said I am I can't see anyone walking in and being like oh ya I never had a SSN when I was born hook it up with a new one for my fake name please.

(Yes, I lose shit a lot)
