    I have a WP site and no matter what I do, the old Favicon from the previous template doesn't get removed. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

    In Wordpress, go to your Editor for the theme and open the header.php file
    there will be a line towards the top, within the <HEAD>, that is LINK REL and points to your favicon. You can hardcode it from there

    Those favicons are annoying little shits aren't they? One of the themes I use has made it so God awfully difficult to change them that there is no other alternative then to hard code it as AlbumFiend noted.

    See, I tried that because that's only way I know how to change a favicon, but the code isn't even there. Here's my header.php code:

    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

    <head profile="http://gmpg.org/xfn/11">
    <meta http-equiv="content-type" 		content="<?php bloginfo('html_type'); ?>; charset=<?php bloginfo('charset'); ?>" />

    <title><?php bloginfo('name'); ?> <?php if ( is_single() ) { ?> » Blog Archive <?php } ?> <?php wp_title(); ?></title>

    <meta name="generator" 					content="WordPress <?php bloginfo('version'); ?>" /> <!-- leave this for stats -->

    <link rel="stylesheet" 					href="<?php bloginfo('stylesheet_url'); ?>" type="text/css" media="screen" />
    <link rel="alternate" 					type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS 2.0" href="<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?>" />
    <link rel="alternate" 					type="text/xml" title="RSS .92" href="<?php bloginfo('rss_url'); ?>" />
    <link rel="alternate" 					type="application/atom+xml" title="Atom 0.3" href="<?php bloginfo('atom_url'); ?>" />
    <link rel="pingback" 					href="<?php bloginfo('pingback_url'); ?>" />

    <?php wp_get_archives('type=monthly&format=link'); ?>

    <?php wp_head(); ?>
    </head>
    <body>

    <div id="page">

    <div id="header">

    		<ul>
    		<?php wp_list_pages('depth=1&sort_column=ID&title_li='); ?>
    		</ul>

    		<h1><a href="<?php echo get_settings('home'); ?>"><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></a></h1>
    </div>
    They really are irritating sometimes!

    I believe that the favicon is placed in the Root Directory. Try to log on to your hosting panel and delete the favicon.ico file from the directory.

    Check your themes folder and see if there's a favicon file. If you see it, delete the file. Clear your browser cache and refresh the page after you delete the file. Try this and see if it works.

    It's theme dependent. I was surprised that the coder of my theme put the favicon in the admin directory, which is locked down like fort knox. It would not display for anyone other than me because of IP restrictions.

    Update: Seems like I had to download the All in One Favicon plugin and upload the new favicon via the plugin. Success at last!

    I would advice you not to rely on plugin for everything which isn't good for many reasons. Try doing these simple things manually which help you to learn.

    I second that . You should edit your header.php with dreamweaver and find something like the following :

    Code:
    link rel="Shortcut Icon" href="http://xxxxxxxxx.com/wp-content/themes/xxxxx/images/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
    you can either delete it or edit it . Hope i helped !

    The favicon doesn't always disappear with a cache clear. They are pesky things that seem to stick around. Try another browser and see if you still get the favicon or if it's gone.

    I tried and had to resort to a plugin, but you are correct, it's best to learn by doing manually.

    Thanks for the suggestion but as I stated in an earlier post, that line of code wasn't even in the code to begin with lol.

    Yeah it's all set now but what I've noticed now is that the old one I was trying to delete earlier is still on the inner pages. What a headache. I'm hiring a professional.
