how to decide if a niche is competitive or not

Newbie question: I found several niche I want to work in, what are the steps to check if it is competitive?

Popular categories (ads you see frequently on the Internet such as: health, beauty, dating, and how to make money) tend to be very saturated. You can also tell how competitive a niche is by using Adwords' Keyword Planner or the research tool from Bing Adcenter.
 
You need to find your compromise between niche(s) with as low results as possible in SERP and as high amount of searching as possible.
 
Just search for the keyword using market samurai or go through the results on Google.
 
If you see for your keywords on google that displays a lot of ads and in the first results are big players then this isnt good for you :)
 
What made you decide you want to work in those niches if you haven't done
your niche research?

Niche becomes competitive when people willing to spend more money on it by thinking of getting it back twice.
 
Check the top 20 resilt and see if you can make a better site the top 10
 
There is competition every where you did not mention mention about several nich if you write write them in query.
But any ways health,beauty,pay day loans fall in stiff competition catageory u need lot of resouces to go top.
 
To check competition you need to check common keywords for that
industry and see how competitive Google says they are and how many
people search for those keywords.
