I just helped my grandma sell her old car (for export to a Third World country).

However, I forgot, that the car had pretty bad problems. Now the car is gone and I remembered it.

Unfortunately, I'm a very soft person, who doesn't like to lie nor harm others, which makes me feel immense guilt.

Yes the buyer will export it to a foreign country and he knew the biggest problem and bought if for very cheap, but I still can't stop thinking about what if he comes back angry, what if ...

How do you deal with guilt?

I don`t, atleast not small thoughts like this one. Bigger issues I just suppress, you can't fix everything.

How did you forget it had problems during the entire sales process?

Irrespective, we all carry guilt. We all look back and think "fuck, that's not my proudest moment". I'm sure most of us also touch our heads on the pillow some nights and our brains remind of us something we cringe about in terms of our past actions.

Guilt reinforces that we have empathy.

As long as you were transparent about the issue and the buyer bought it anyway, it's cool.

Can You fix the problem now? If you can't then just suppress the guilt and move on.

Because I didn't interact with the car in years. I just helped my grandma sell it.

Oh yes, I have tons of those random moments, when I remember some cringe stuff from my past. Since I can't handle cringe well I spasm around while trying to forget it again :D

How do you deal with guilt?
you probably wont need to deal with it
most people who buy cars will do another check of their own and fix it up or sell as it is.
They know.

or
it can eat you away forever
maybe that guy already passed away because of the faulty car you sold them

I can feel you, truly. You didn’t mean harm or anything bad, and the buyer knew what he was getting it was cheap and for export. Sometimes we overthink because we care too much, but not everything is on us. as you let him check the car so it isn't your fault that much!

For the most extreme cases, therapy. But in your case, just accept your mistake. You can be transparent to them if thats what really gonna help you.

It's clear you acted with good intentions and transparency, especially since the buyer was aware of major issues and paid accordingly. Guilt often comes from caring—acknowledge it, but also remind yourself that you were honest and fair. Learn from it, but don’t let it weigh you down unnecessarily.
