For building links, you pretty much have two main options. You can either contact people and convince them to put a link to your website on theirs or you can target activities where you are building links manually (i.e. article submission, social media, forum and blog commenting, directory submission).

create a blog on blogspot, tumblr etc...use spun articles on them using ur keywords and lick back to ur site...use social networks and highy quality backlinks, such as gov, edu and wiki links

general niche blog. That can either mean an IM blog, or something that provides no value at all and is pure spam c. 2004.
