I have been thinking of switching my money site's Wordpress theme to Genesis which is much more lightweight and will make the site load faster overall.

But I want to test this transition offline before I apply the changes to the actual site.

I know that I can download a copy of the money site and import the SQL database to create a clone of the website on one of my unused domains

But I would much rather install Wordpress locally and run the website from my hard drive (offline)

Is this possible? Or something similar?

Awesome responses guys thank you. Both WAMP and instantwp.com give me precisely what I need and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to find it.

Well i think you must use WAMP to import a backup of your site like you would on any other server. That would help you respectively
