how to clean a domain?

Hello,

I've recently purchased a new domain for base price, it was a really nice name that I liked and would work for my niche.

The problem is, it seems i have not done thorough enough research, I shouldn've bought Moz and investigated it more.

The point is - it has 33% spam score on moz, it is a fresh .com domain. I guess I didn't do my homework.

Now, I don't mind losing the base registration cost, but I really like the name. So my question is: How to salvage a domain? Can I just disavow all backlinks that exist on it via google console? Or do I just scrap it and buy another one.

Don't worry about it an carry on whatever you wanna do with it. Over the time it will go to 0.
The only problem is if you try to sell guest posts to your site some moron SEO/reseller will try to point it out and ask for discount or something.
Other than that you are good to go.

What do you mean? 33% spam score isn't bad?

I assume it is from bad spammy backlinks that existed before. Should I not disavow them?

You don't as google ignores them. As the domain switches hands, new site is build on it, google keeps track of all those events.

Does this mean if you purchase an expired domain that has high DA and a lot of backlinks - are they all worthless then?

I read here on bhw that if you reconstruct the link structure, those backlinks remain useful

Google ignores spam links that doesn't mean it ignores all the links.

First of all almost all spam scores given by seo software is mostly bullshit.
If it had any major significance, it would be very easy to fuck your competitor down the serp drain by building thousands of shitty spam links for their domain.

Not all of them. If the backlinks are still in the index and if google believes them to be "legitimate backlinks", then they will retain some value. Otherwise they are worthless.
The whole business of expired domains is built on this gamble. That the domain name has some very high value backlinks and that they are in the index.

You should disavow them. it's good seo practice. Hard to tell how effective it is but it's considered a good practice.

You can disavow them on search console, but that won't change the spam score on some seo software like Moz or Ahrefs. They all maintain their own index and disvowing on Google has no effect on that.

Spam score is a fake metric, no need to worry

Don't worry about the spam score, it's a third-party metric and is often given to sites that were acquired for parking purposes. Write and publish content on the domain and see if they're getting ranked (will take time since it's a fresh domain).

I have a domain with 7% spam score that Google even refuses to index (4 results index penalty), and rank.
Other sites with 28% spam score doing fine.

Posts get indexed. Not all of them, but out of 20 posts about 10 got indexed in a week. Domain is fresh.

many people says spam score is not factor but its a factor .you need to re structrued your domain linking
