How to choose an aged domain

Domain authority can be easily manipulated artifically with spammy links, it's not a reliable metric to observe

i have built websites on about 20 expired domains in last few weeks, and my criteria is very simple, I am using spamzilla and pretty much using, what @Nargil says.
I will filter by trust flow, or trust factor
bcz they usually give domains with high quality backlinks.
sometimes sites with only 1 or 2 quality backlinks perform the best, then evaluate them on semrush, check backlinks, anchors and make sure they are relevant no gambling, japanese etc B.S
I dont really check history, bcz by seeing the traffic graph i can tell if someone has done spam B.S or not, as their is sudden spike in keywords and traffic and then it dies to zero.
the above two checks give me the best performing domains, and MOZ spam score is B.S, some of my best domains have 80% spam score on MOZ

When choosing an old domain, in addition to backlinks and authority, check the history with Wayback Machine to see what was there before, check if it had penalties on Google, if it was used by a serious brand, if the site had relevant content and if it still receives organic traffic.

Hello, kyy2565,Pay attention to the history of the domain name and scrutinize it for bad records. Is the form of the domain name relevant to your products and services and easy to remember. Most importantly the old domain name must have legitimacy.

Ideally you want to check if there is any penalty with google. If there's not then you proceed with buying it.

The basics of it are to check the backlinks for any obvious spam, if the backlinks have a natural looking distribution and are somewhat relevant with lots of web address anchors and such, you should be fine.
Check the content history for any obvious spam content. If the content is fairly consistent through it's history then you should be good.
If the site is indexed then that is great but you likely won't find many dropped domains that are, if the above is good then it will likely reindex easily. If it is at auction, has a current site on it and is not indexed then don't even bother with it.
Finding clean domains isn't hard at all, it is a numbers game. If you check 1m domains you will likely find a few that may fit your needs. Keep checking domains and you'll find some gems, it's not hard, just keep at it.
