How to change footer background in blogger?(Help Needed)

I am new with blogger, trying to change the color of footer area. Google'd some articles but most of the codes they mentioned wasn found in html. May be cause of blogger update. Can anyone expert help me kindly? I also thought i wud been great if i can change header and footer widths to match browser width.
