You need to have an already established source of traffic.
Youtube? Facebook? Email sequence? You name it.
If not, then you should get the ball rolling by paying for traffic, especially if it's for a contest.
You definitely don't want to create a contest for just 10 people. Kinda "force" them to share your post (public option) and send the first people to your contest by actually paying for impressions.
... Unless you've got organic traffic (subscribers) you really need to pay to build momentum.
gleam io or any other contest tool is cool as long as you can kick the snowball and then let the snowball create the avalanche you're looking for (a.k.a the "free" traffic you requested).
But you really need the snowball first (being organic traffic or paid).

You need to spend at least for the domain/website - have a high quality lead capturing form -> invest good time in promoting your site to get traffic.

Since you mentioned free here is a simple method I have been using.
You can use any social media platform for this, I have used it mostly on insta. Get an insta account with few followers say 200-300 followers should be looking legit with posts & followers.
Now goto your niche based accounts like & comment on their posts something like nice work etc appreciating it and also mention you would like to help or provide some assistance regarding their work etc if interested DM me.
People DM you and even abuse you but that's part of this game.
I used to collect 5-15 leads using MP per account daily in my niche. This may vary for different niches but it works.
You can do this manual way or automate it.
I used to have some 50+ accounts doing this regularly until MP was shutdown.
