how to calculate keyword density?

Depends on tons of stuff, like image alt tags, meta, page title etc etc. I personally use http://tools.seobook.com/general/keyword-density/ after someone on BHW recommended it to me. HTH.

And how many words is that main keyword? If it's just one word keyword, then your density is 0.5%. If it's 2 word keyword, then it's 1%. If it's 3 word keyword, then it's 1.5%. It's not a rocket science.

keyword - 5
keyword density = ((keyword / wordcount) * 100 )
keyword density = ((5/1000)/*100) = 0.5%
within 1% of keyword density is fine for the content

its a 4 word keyword. So if I used my 4 word keyword 5 times on 1000 word post it means the keyword density is 2%?
Also lets just say my keyword is: "free points"
But if i use the keywords like: "Get free points" "Earn free points" "free points now!" will this count as keyword density for "free points" or no?

Yes that would be 2%.
And in that case you stated, only "free points" will be counted as a keyword. "Get free points" would be counted as a different keyword. Read the book in the link I posted.

Keyword density can be check using smallseotool just Google it and paste your content. All the best

Its sometimes tricky but basically keyword/100 x total
