How do I manually build backlinks from edu wikis? I heard something about creating an account then putting the link in your signature?

wikis do not have signatures.. you simply find sites, register an account publish your wiki article on your user profile..

oh, and you should consider changing your username to something else, because apparently it is false :)

Changing username would be your first step before reading extensive e-books on the topic. Your best bet would be to link sites which you want in the articles.

I've never done it manually... Always software so I wasn't to sure.

this is difficult to use by hand, to use the help key is automatically

Since many people use wiki to post article, they post it under the user name as above BHW mentioning.
You should also post article with title in wiki site and get backlinks with it.

To create a post with relevant title in wiki site-

1. Find wiki sites using footprints -
inurl:wiki/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin&returnto=Main+Page&type=signup

2. Create an account in wiki website.
3. Search your title in search box.
4. It will show you existing page (if any) or click on "create page"
5. Post article with your anchor text and link.

Note: some wiki pages which you will create could be remove from website.

Thanks but I'm sticking with good old software :D

It is very tough to build backlinks by hand. The link building process can be done by tools but the link list obtaining (scrape, filter, select, check) must be done by hand. Hope it helpful.

I would say that there are option of getting back links from wikis , either by using software or by doing it manually but i tell you it's not very easy to get back links ..
