I would focus a lot of time on backlinks. SEO is also going to help you but you sound like you are on the right track. A lot of great tips here you should not have a problem boosting your PR !
 
Authority links will increase your PR. Try to get a homepage link on a niche related website! NOT A BLOGROLL.
 
I always prefer that Content is king,if site include duplicate content then it will harmful and spam in Google's view.so always remember to include best and unique content within your pages even whether this content is for free blogsite or website page's.
 
DO NOT add much of Javascript in the section of your page. Shift them to the bottom before </html> to the extent possible.
 
Ways to increase pagerank

1. Building high quality links.
2. Building a link Wheel.
3. Interlinking your site pages.
4. Social media sharing.
5. Reduce the number of external pages that you are linking to.
 
I just want to add my two cent .. PR is IMPORTANT for SERPS..

I have two wesbites... in same niche...
one site has basic information. has 30 backlinks has PR4

no seo title tag no meta tag no keyword description tag...

this site has some information on different topics on my niche.


this PR has come this JUNE

and other site on which I am working on site seo and offsite seo was ranking for many keywords with efforts...has PR zero 700 backlinks links suddenly gets a new competitor .. that is my other site.. which was idle...and my focus shift on that site... I am adding content .... doing seo....

earlier title tag was site name... never used description tag...or keyword tag
 
i exchange link with other blogs that have some niche with my blogs
get better ranking pagerank 3

I noticed no one has mentioned links from social media, can it have any effect on a sites serps or page rank?
 
Boosting your page rank means to create some good link with high PR webpage 2.0. It will definitely take some time.
