Follow people, like and reblog their posts. Submit to blogs in your niche. Upload a ton of pics each day with lots of tags. It's just like any other platform where you have to be active and interact with people to gain followers.

You can expect about 5-10% follow back depending on how targeted your follows are and about ~2% follows from likes. Where you really get the followers is posting relevant, unique, and fresh content to your niche. Find some sources outside of tumblr that stay up to the hour on your niche and use those sources to feed your tumblr blogs. Use relative and appropriate hash tags but make sure to research your hash tags first to ensure there is enough volume for those tags to get you traffic.

Dude, no need to buy traffic. If you can increase your views then the traffic gradually increase....
