How to best use scripts to help SEO

Okay, so I've read a lot of threads here and most of the one's about scripting are really specific or pertain to something else etc.

My partner can create basically any type of script we need - what would you do with that ability?

We have:

- 1 main site that we want to rank nationally for highly competitive keywords
- multiple sites with ads that we'd like to rank for local keywords (and can link to #1 with)

We can create any other networks, but we're confused about how to use scripting to help with this.

If coding ability was all it takes to rank for a competitive keyword then everyone would be ranking. Have you seen how cheap it is to hire some pretty talented programmers these days?

I use programming myself to automate a lot of the boring manual work I'd otherwise be having to do myself. The best way to learn how to do this is to get an understanding of SEO and what it takes to rank and apply a little ingenuity.
