For example when you subscribe to a channel on the iPhone app it will automatically show you recommended channels. My question is how can I become one of the channels shown ? How does youtube decide to recommend your channel or not ? Is it because the channels share a percentage of the same subscribers ? Maybe the upload rate ? Upload consistency?

You tag your videos and channel (about + settings) keywords properly.
