Does anyone know how to be the top post for a Hashtag?

Is it just Likes or do you need a combination of Comments/Likes?

More likes than anything i think. I get on top of a few specific tags relating to my country and niche..when i check the other photos on the top section all of them are high just like my photo..e.g usually to get top on a certain tag i know i need at least 1k-2k likes..i check and all the others would have at least 1k..i don't really see any there with say 200 likes but heaps of comments.

it really depends. Ive gotten like 3k more than the average likes and not on it, but ive also had way less likes and on it

Like the poster above stated, it depends on multiple factors.
The popularity of the hashtag, the competition of people with popular images...
Of course, there's a minimal number of likes needed for you to "nominate yourself".

Mladz, I'm very much into IG & on this new "top post" hashtag bandwaggon,
there's people with 700, hell with even 500 likes already trending. Then again,
could be just IG letting them because they know it will break the 1k anyway.

Yeah the key is too latch onto a tag maybe 100k-500k range and try and make it your own..assuming the most popular tags in that niche are in the millions.

I was told it does not depend on likes amount only.
I think there are some different reasons such as comments, account age, and maybe followers count.

There is time involved in the algorithm. If you noticed, almost all of the top posts are posted by the user within a short timeframe. Like 1hr-2 days. Because older posts don't get as much likes as the newer posts.

I think the formula is something like: "Number of Likes" Divided by "Lifespan of post".
E.g.
1) 2,000likes/2hr = 16.67 likes per min.
vs
2) 100,000likes/1week = 9.92 likes per min

If all the top 9 posts has more than 10 likes per min, "No.1" will appear among them, and "No.2" won't. It depends on who has the most number of likes per timeframe.

My thoughts (& experience) exactly. :)
