With windows, I couldn't stay organized. Switched to Apple and it changed my life with the rich app ecosystem, here's a rundown of my organization.
Bear - Notetaking
Ulysses - Article and book writing (markdown makes formatting a breeze, keep all my text organized with filters and groups, allows you to export directly to WordPress, epub, pdf, .doc)
OmniFocus - for task management (GTD) super high learning curve but master this program and you become a productive god.
Hazel - Folder automation (if the download is image move to X or Y, if the download is 4 weeks old delete) pair this with AppleScript to unlock a new level of automation.
Best part, all these programs are cross-platform so I can access my text and files from my iPhone and tablet.
I use a few other programs to automate various tasks but this is a great start.
